Missioners Eucharist

Greeting at the beginning:

The Lord be with youd with your spirit too.

Today, tonight,
In shade and in light,
The Lord be with you,

And with your spirit too.

In weakness and pain
In powers that wane,
The Lord be with you,

And with your spirit too.

In health and in might,
In strength for the fight,
The Lord be with you,

And with your spirit too.

In your coming to rest,
In rising with the blessed,
The Lord be with you,

And with your spirit too.

Opening Prayer (instead of the Collect for Purity)

Be with us, Lord,
To find your hopefulness.
Be with us, Lord,
In the land beyond all stress.
Be with us, Lord,
To give us your deep peace.
Be with us, Lord,
As we strive to serve one another.
Be with us, Lord,
At life’s final release.

Confession:

Collect:

Grant, O Lord, that your Church in this land may be true to its birthright. Kindle in us the adventure of obedience, the single eye, the humble ways, the nimble spirit, the loving witness which marks out your servants and your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

1st Reading:  (??)

After the 1st Reading:

(From the Midrash)  And Isaac asked the Eternal: “King of the world! When you made the light, you said in your book that the light was good: when you determined the extent of the skies and the breadth of the earth, you said in your book that they were good; and every herb you have made and every animal, you have said that they too were good; but when you made male and female in your image you did not say in your book that they were good. Why is it, Lord?”  And God answered, “Because male and female I have not perfected; they are to make themselves perfect and to perfect the world.”

Gospel:  (?Possibly)   St John 21: 15-17

After the Gospel:

(From the Northumbrian Office)  Our emotions sometimes author one of the greatest problems of the Christian life: to create a God in its own image, a loving, sweet, and precious God who wouldn’t dare declare war on a person’s dominant emotions. The emotions do not have a franchise on this project. The intellect often sculpts out a God in its own image: a God who is very intelligent, rational, reasonable, very logical, very scriptural, very box-able and definable, and having erected this man-made God in the centre of life, will vow and declare that this, and this alone, is the true and living God.

In the place of the Creed:

I still believe in the power of ministry, where the sinful help the sinner. I believe in an authority that washes the feet of the poor. I believe in a banquet where sinners learn to love, eating in company with their God.  I believe in teachers who share the beauty that is life. I believe in the words that God has left for us, words that can fashion hope from darkness and turn bitter loneliness into the deepest companionship. And I believe in my brothers and sisters, fashioned in mystery by God. I believe in the beauty of their minds, the force of their emotions, the fire and the loyalty of their love. I know their weakness, their cowardice, their treachery and even their hate. But I believe in them and their thirst for acceptance and love.
Most of all I believe in God and the power of his victory in Christ. I believe in a Resurrection that rescued us from death. I believe in an Easter that opened the way to hope. I believe in a joy that no threat can take away. I believe in a peace that I know in fleeting moments and seek with boldness born of God. I believe in a life that lingers after this, a life that God has fashioned for his friends. I believe in understanding, in forgiveness, in mercy and in faith. I believe in friendship and its power top turn selfishness to love. I believe in eternity and in the hope that it affords to enable me to be whole. (James Kavanagh)

At The Offertory

Lord, be with us in the breaking of the bread
Lord bless us now, heart, hand and head
Lord be with us offering the wine
Lord bless us body and soul, they are thine.

Lord present in the wine and bread
Stay with us, Lord when we are fed
Bless the way by which we go
Guide us in this world below.
Lord you are there in bread and wine
Remake us by your gifts divine
Bless O Lord the life we lead
From sin and stain keep us freed.
