DDay 06 Final Service

Main Service at 3.15pm   Price Hall, Bradford Grammar School

On Screen:  Power Point sequence of photographs  [DDay2]  At signal band lead into final two songs, text on DDay1

Band play for approx ten minutes ending with

Mary’s Son Jesus
Gave his life for our sins.
We’ve come into your presence, Lord,
We’ve come to praise.
Thank you for your gift of life.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
You’ve called us here to worship you,
worship you, Lord.

The echo of the heavens
Will resound in all the earth.
We’ve come into your presence, Lord,
We’ve come to praise…

When all around is fading
And nothing seems to last,
When each day is filled with sorrow
Still I know with all my heart -

He’s got the whole world in his hands,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.
I’ll fear no evil for you are with me,
Strong to deliver, mighty to save,
He’s got the whole world in his hands.

When I walk through fire
I will not be burned.
When the waves come crashing round me
Still I know with all my heart…

Lights down to minimum

1st Video sequence Opening Video Clip:  THE CHILD IN CHURCH TODAY
from David Lee – 2 voices.

Text on screen is 1st Hymn (Be thou) and band lead off without introduction

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
Naught be all else to me save that thou art;
Thou my best thought in the day and the night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word,
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I thy true heir;
Thou in me dwelling, and I in thy care.

Be thou my conscience, my ears and my eyes,
Be for me openness, hope and surprise,
Point out the ‘yes’ in the life of Our Lord,
Show our young people that they’re not ignored.

High King of Heaven, when talking is done,
Grant that our focus may be on the young.
Christ of my own heart, at work in this Hall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

Changes to congregational prayer:  May we be peaceful half way through this intro:

Let us hold hands together for a moment – we are stronger together than apart – and we’re going to say a prayer together that Mairaid Corrigan Maguire, the Nobel Peace winner, taught us on her visit to Bradford a few months ago:

May we be peaceful and happy and light
May our families be peaceful and happy and light

May our communities be peaceful and happy and light

May our world be peaceful and happy and light
Amen!

1st Bible Reading:

(Ephesians 2: 1-10) As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God  - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

2nd Bible Reading:  Matthew 11 :  25 – 30

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have Hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

All things have been committed to me by my Father. No-one knows the Son except the Father, and no-one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Video picks up +Sentamu as he talks to the young people on stage, introduces drums and walks with thjem to right hand stage. Band picks up rhythm and leads into ‘We are marching’…

We are marching in the light of God,
we are marching in the light of God.   (Repeated)

We are marching ohhh oohh,
We are marching in the light of God.

We are living in the love of God…

Band leads into hymn

Screen:   Hymn texts

We have a dream the Church of God will rise

through living closely to his Holy Word;
and never let the ‘clever and the wise’
stop children’s thoughts and views from being heard.

We have a dream young people shall be free
to journey on in faith at their own pace;
free to become whatever they may be
of their own choosing in the light of grace.

We have a dream that one day we shall find
a Church of equal opportunity
where everyone can leave demands behind
and share Christ’s banquet in community.

We have a dream that love will overcome
the fear of living in the here and now,
that Christians old and young will spur us on,
and hand in hand we’ll show the world, “Here’s how!”

Screen:   Confession Text

Loving God, you see us and you know us,
            and your heart is merciful.
Forgive us, we have sinned.
We have not lived as your children;
and we have not loved your children either.
Make in us a new and clean heart;
renew in us a passion that a missing
            generation may be welcomed
            into your  kingdom.
Grant us a heart to give and to serve
and not to count the cost.
Amen.

Screen:  Text of song

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
Light for the world to see:
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your Church gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has power to save us.
Make us your saving voice.   Christ, be our light…

Longing for faith, many are struggling,
Looking for love, many are scorned.
Make us your family, welcoming strangers,
Sharing your gifts of grace.  Christ be our light…

Many the gifts, many the people,
Many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants to one another,
Making your kingdom come.  Christ be our light…

Screen:   Song texts

Over all the earth
You reign on high.
Every mountain stream
Every sunset sky.
But my one request,
Lord, my only aim,
Is that you’d reign in me again.
Lord reign in me, reign in your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour.
You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t you reign in me again?

Over every thought
Over every word
May my life reflect
The beauty of my Lord.
Because you mean more to me
Than any earthly thing
So won’t you reign in me again?
Lord reign in me, reign in your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour.
You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t you reign in me again?

Holy, holy, God almighty
Who was and is to come
God of glory
You’re so worthy
All the saints bow down.
Holy is your name in all the earth
Righteous are ways so merciful.
Everything you’ve done is just and true.
Holy, Holy God are you.
Holy, Holy God are you.

All blessing, all honour, belongs to you.
All power, wisdom is yours.

Screen   Prayer texts

Lord Jesus Christ, we praise you that you have renewed your call to us
to serve you as ambassadors and witnesses to your saving love,
and that despite our weaknesses,
you are happy for us to represent you here in this Diocese of Bradford.

We came here, seeking your grace,
May we go out proclaiming your love.

Move within us and nurture the seeds of faith in our hearts.
Enable us to learn new skills and to refurbish old ones
so that with energy, insight and confidence
we may be sources of hope and comfort,
love and compassion
to a needy world.

We came here, seeking your grace,
May we go out proclaiming your love.

Make us proud to belong to this Diocesan family
and to identify ourselves
with the particular churches from which we come.
Take away any sense of complacency or mistrust
that we may put you first in our lives
and bring to faith all those whom you calling -
that the Risen Christ be proclaimed by all, for all.

The whole congregation holds hands

Faithful God, just and true,
we stand before you as one people:
may truth and integrity hold hands,
youth and experience engage,
peace and justice embrace,
healing and renewal combine;
that all your children
may hear our ‘yes’ to the challenges ahead
and rejoice in your ‘yes’ to the future.

So may we become the ‘yes’ people:
Yes to the young,
Yes to the old,
Yes to every neighbour,
Yes to wonder,
Yes to service,
Yes to the promise
That now, and for all eternity:
Our God reigns!!  Amen.

Screen remains on last part of text as +David leads announcements, of thanks etc.  At end, gives final blessing.

May the God who called us here today
now send us out,
to turn words into deeds,
worship into service
and vision into reality;
And the blessing of God Almighty,
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Amen
.

Screen to final Hymn text

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
consider all the works thy hand has made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art!

When I can see how young minds quickly wander
through complex rules I thought a mystery;
when on the internet they’re forced to ponder
on abstract thoughts that still are closed to me.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art!

And when I think that God his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art!

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart;
When I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim: my God, how great thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee:
how great thou art, how great thou art!
